Mistral AI4Science: Open Positions on NQS for Chemistry

I (Filippo Vicentini) am recruiting for two positions to work with me on machine-learning simulation of correlated quantum matter and quantum chemistry, using Neural Quantum States (NQS) and related ML-based methods.

Both positions are hosted in the fundamental research laboratory of Mistral AI, the top-tier AI company based in Paris, where I lead the effort on ML-based simulation methods for quantum systems, and collaborate with other researchers to bridge those methods to coarser-scale simulations. In both cases you would work under my supervision, both within the company and in close interaction with my academic group at École Polytechnique and Collège de France.

The research focuses on NQS for chemistry and related topics. Applicants may also interact with other research lines within the division, such as work on applications of large language models to scientific tasks and problems.

Applications are handled by Mistral’s recruitment platform. Get in touch with me first for a fast track. Depending on level, candidates might be required to undertake scientific coding and ML knowledge interviews. Salaries are extremely competitive.

Researcher (Postdoc equivalent)

A postdoc-equivalent position on a permanent contract (CDI). I am looking for someone with a PhD in Computational Physics, Computer Science, or a related field, and a strong background in Machine Learning and Quantum Physics — ideally with hands-on experience in Variational Monte Carlo and/or Neural Quantum States. Exceptional coding and communication skills are essential, and prior experience with continuous-space problems (quantum chemistry, electron gases, nuclear physics) is a definite plus.

CIFRE PhD

A CIFRE PhD (industrial PhD), employed by the company, with time shared between the company’s research lab and my academic group. Applicants are also validated by me. The ideal candidate holds a Master’s degree in Physics, Quantum Technologies, Computer Science, or a related field, has good knowledge of ML methods and of either quantum chemistry or condensed matter physics, and is familiar with Monte Carlo sampling techniques and their pitfalls. Great coding and communication skills round out the profile.
